How often should I get a facial?
How often should I get a facial?
This is the No. 1 question we hear from clients in the facial treatment room. The answer is … it depends on what your skincare goals are:
- Anti-aging.
- Acne treatment.
- Calming overly sensitive skin.
- Remedying dehydration.
- Correcting dark spots.
For an accurate answer to that question, you first need to determine your long-term goals and how much you can do on your own to achieve them. Coming in for one facial is not going to immediately accomplish long-term goals. The process requires dedication on the part of both you and your esthetician.
For example, clients often ask about anti-aging treatments. As we age, our skin cells don’t replenish at the same rate as in our younger days. The skin’s cellular turnover rate as you age is as follows:
- In your 30s: 28-45-days.
- In your 40s: 45-60 days.
- In your 50s: 60-90 days.
“When a client wants to address aging, or any skincare issue, we start with a skin consult,” said Cassandra. “In anti-aging consults, we work towards a protocol that supports faster skin cellular turnover. We do this by addressing both internal and external factors. For instance, we look at how much sugar you consume and how often you are using sunscreen.”
Each person will have a unique regimen. “After we looked at the client’s skin and determined how to achieve the desired outcome, we set up the first anti-aging treatment and skincare regimen.”
Once in the treatment room, the anti-aging facial series an esthetician recommends may be a facial once a week for six weeks, after which only a monthly facial is needed. Others may not need a six-week series or may need only quarterly facial treatment support.
At-home skin care is a must, as well, Cassandra reminds us. “The steps you take daily, both morning and evening, set you up for the best possible outcomes.”
