The Magic of Reiki
I’ve explored many alternative therapies and wellness modalities, but one stands out in its quiet, powerful way: Reiki.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, hands-on, energy healing technique that originated in Japan. The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words: rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, meaning “life force energy.”
When our life force energy is low or blocked, we’re more likely to feel stressed, fatigued, or even physically ill. Reiki helps to clear those blockages and restore balance to our body, mind, and spirit.
What I love most about Reiki is how subtle yet deeply transformative it can be. It’s not a massage, and you don’t have to talk during a session. Instead, you lie down fully clothed and allow the practitioner to gently place their hands on or just above your body.
The experience is incredibly relaxing, like your nervous system is finally exhaling.
I’ve had several Reiki sessions over the years, but I recall one so vividly that it still gives me chills. I had been in a car accident. Thankfully, I was not seriously injured. But my body was holding onto the trauma in ways I couldn’t fully recognize.
During a Reiki session soon after this, I felt something remarkable. The practitioner placed her hands on the side of my body that had taken the impact. And I could actually feel the release of that traumatic energy.
It was as if my body had been waiting for permission to let go. Reiki offered it the safe space to do so.
That experience reminded me that healing isn’t just physical; it’s emotional, energetic, and deeply personal. Reiki meets you where you are. It doesn’t force or push. It simply supports your body’s innate ability to heal itself.
Reiki can be a beautiful and restorative path forward. It can be helpful whether you’re navigating stress, emotional upheaval, or chronic pain, or just need a moment of stillness. Sometimes, the healing you need isn’t found in doing more, but in being still and allowing your energy to rebalance.
If you’ve never experienced Reiki before, I encourage you to try it with an open heart. You might be surprised at what unfolds – both on the table and within yourself.
